About Me
“Canning is practical, fun, and doesn’t have to be perfect.”
Hi, I’m Kimberly, and welcome to The Pickled Cauldron—where canning is practical, fresh food is for everyone, and perfection is not required.
I started this little corner of the internet to help support my family while we prepare to sell our feed store business. I grew up in Newman Lake and now live in Spokane Valley with my husband and our almost 3-year-old daughter, Kacey, who loves helping in the kitchen.
After running our family’s feed stores for the last 7 years, I realized how many people no longer know how to can or preserve food. It’s not their fault—it’s just knowledge we’ve stopped passing down. That realization, along with my love for canning, inspired me to create The Pickled Cauldron.
Why The Pickled Cauldron?
When I was a kid, my mom and I canned bread-and-butter pickles while pretending we were brewing a witch’s potion. That memory has always stuck with me. Canning is a little like magic—you take simple, fresh ingredients and turn them into something that lasts for months.
But as magical as it feels, canning does require care and safety. Mistakes like improper sealing or methods can lead to health risks, and I want you to feel confident and informed every step of the way. And let’s be honest—it’s a lot more fun when you have tools and labels that make you smile.
What You’ll Find Here
- Witty jar labels to make canning fun.
- Top tips to help you can safely and stress-free.
- Funny shirts and playful designs—because this is fun for me, and life’s too short for boring T-shirts.
In the future, I’m excited to design even more fun and creative tools to make canning easier and more enjoyable for everyone. And come spring, I’ll be sharing garden tips for planting with canning in mind—small gardens, big results.
Why I Started This
For years, I thought food had to be perfect to be worth making. But here’s the truth: food doesn’t have to look pretty to taste good. I’m not a canning expert—I’m just someone with the knowledge, time, and passion to share what I’ve learned.
I also have a professional baking and pastry certification from Spokane Community College (SCC) and a 4-year-old sourdough starter named Nancy, who’s been keeping us fed for years. Between baking, canning, and designing fun little things, I want to show that these skills aren’t just useful—they’re empowering.
Family, Fun, and Fresh Ideas
At The Pickled Cauldron, it’s not just me—it’s my family, too. My husband and I are raising a curious toddler, Kacey, who loves helping out in the kitchen. We want her (and you!) to grow up knowing that canning and preserving aren’t scary. It’s practical, fun, and something anyone can do.
You don’t need a big garden, expensive tools, or hours of free time to get started. Whether you’re pickling cucumbers, saving extra produce, or just giving it a try for the first time, you’ll find tips, tools, and a little humor here to help you do more with less—safely and stress-free.
Now, grab a jar (or a T-shirt), and let’s preserve something magical.
